Engagement Relationships

There are four types of engagement relationships with the coalition. Given the diverse nature of projects, engagement in more than one type of relationship is inevitable and encouraged.

  • Partnerships
  • Sponsorships
  • Alliances
  • Affiliates

Partnerships

  • Program partnerships:
    • Partners are generally organizations that have substantial resources. FPD engagement with partner organizations is strategic – filling a gap, complementing, co-branding, experimentation, research, innovation, scaling up/smart scaling vendors (organizational capacity building), supplier development, community outreach, etc.
  • Funding partnerships:
    • Funding partners are private donors, venture and impact investors, and foundations that make strategic sustained investments in FPD operations and its project portfolio. FPD engages with funding partners to monitor the management of innovative projects so that targeted economic and social returns on investments are realized.

Sponsorships

  • Sponsoring organizations and individuals invest in FPD operations and projects by providing in-kind services or funds to cover specific expenses
  • FPD engages with sponsors to identify resource investment opportunities that align with their values and strategic goals and that meet the needs of FPD coalition members, board, consultants, volunteers, and staff

Alliances

Alliance relationships are based on programs or initiatives

  • Programs/Services Alliance: The individual or organization works in collaboration with FPD to provide fee-based and fee-free support services and resources
  • Initiative Alliance: The convening organization has one or more strategic initiatives.  The organization’s agenda generally overlaps or complements FPD’s.
    • FPD works in collaboration with the convener to “facilitate and accelerate” initiative implementation.
    • FPD is a strategic participant in initiatives, when appropriate.

Affiliates

Affiliate relationships are based on a particular project or an affinity area.

  • Project Affiliate:
    • Individuals and organizations primarily engage with FPD on their projects implementation.  Project affiliates are “encouraged” to contribute talent and resource(s) appropriate for their current capacity and growth goals.
